Black Lives Truly do Matter

Why. Why in a world where we are so diverse do we have to find reasons to create violence and hate? Why should the color of our skin determine the way we must be treated? When will our world be at peace once again? It hurts to see discrimination and racism be so prevalent in today’s world. It is unfair and unjust what has happened. Hearing George Floyd’s scream as he plead for his life gave me chills, and broke my heart into a million pieces. His neck was held down by an officer’s knee for 8 whole minutes, as he struggled, saying “I can’t breath.” A man’s life was fading before this officer, yet he did not stop. Someone was dying under his knee and he had the audacity to remain heartless and cold. How dare this officer be such a monster? What hurts the most is that this is not the only instance where black citizens are treated with utter disrespect. If a white citizen walked into a store with his hands in his pockets, he would not be looked at or seen as a threat. If a black citizen completed the same action, he would be questioned and possibly arrested, though what was done showed no sign of danger or violence. A comb brush may be seen as an item you may just keep in your car, and use regularly. But in the hands of a black man, it is seen as a weapon. Blacks have been ripped out of their homes and shot to the ground for such invalid reasons. They have been stripped of basic rights they deserve. Why must we discriminate based on the color of skin? All humans are part of a collective race - the human race. No one should forget that. We must treat each other equally. Blacks have had to deal with hundreds of years of discrimination and abuse, all for what? The color of their skin. It hurts me knowing what black citizens must constantly deal with. But I know it has to change. We have to change. Our world MUST change.
